Tattoo Aftercare Instructions

Congratulations on your new tattoo! Proper aftercare is essential to ensure your tattoo heals beautifully and remains vibrant for years to come. Please follow these detailed aftercare instructions:

Immediate Aftercare

  1. Leave the Bandage On: Your tattoo artist will cover your tattoo with a sterile bandage or wrap. Leave this on for 2-4 hours after your session to protect the area from bacteria and reduce the risk of infection.

  2. Gently Wash Your Tattoo: After removing the bandage, wash your hands thoroughly, then gently wash your tattoo with lukewarm water and a mild, fragrance-free soap. Use your fingertips to clean the area—avoid using a washcloth or sponge.

  3. Pat Dry: After washing, gently pat your tattoo dry with a clean, soft towel or paper towel. Do not rub or scratch the area.

  4. Apply a Thin Layer of Ointment: Once your tattoo is dry, apply a thin layer of the recommended tattoo ointment or fragrance-free moisturizer. Avoid applying too much product as this can suffocate the skin.

Ongoing Care (First 2 Weeks)

  1. Keep It Clean: Continue to wash your tattoo gently with mild soap and water twice a day. Always pat dry and apply a thin layer of ointment or moisturizer afterward.

  2. Avoid Submerging Your Tattoo: Do not soak your tattoo in water. Avoid baths, swimming pools, hot tubs, and the ocean until your tattoo is fully healed. Stick to quick showers instead.

  3. Protect from the Sun: Your new tattoo is sensitive to UV rays. Keep it covered with loose clothing or apply a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher sunscreen once the tattoo is fully healed. Do not apply sunscreen during the initial healing process.

  4. Avoid Scratching or Picking: As your tattoo heals, it may scab or peel. Do not pick at scabs or scratch the area. Let the skin heal naturally to avoid scarring or ink loss.

Long-Term Care

  1. Moisturize Regularly: Keep your tattoo moisturized with a fragrance-free lotion to maintain the vibrancy of the colors.

  2. Stay Hydrated: Healthy skin heals better. Drink plenty of water and maintain a balanced diet to keep your skin in top condition.

  3. Protect from Sun Exposure: Even after your tattoo is healed, continue to protect it from the sun to prevent fading. Use sunscreen with a high SPF whenever your tattoo is exposed to sunlight.
